The Sunraysia Musician’s Club may have found another saviour.
Mildura musician and proprietor of the Sound Trap Chris Rogers has called a meeting for Wednesday March 10 in a bid to rekindle interest in the organisation, currently in recess.
The organisation went into hibernation last year but a number of former members have indicated interest in restoring the senior section (18 and over) part of it.
The Musician’s Club was originally formed after a meeting was held in the Green Room of the Coonawarra Paddleboat back in 1979.
One of its early activities was to help run a fundraising concert to raise money for Red Cliffs fruit growers devastated by a hail storm.
The concert was organised through former Sunraysia Daily editor the late George Tilley and was held at the Mildura racecourse.
Former Musicians Club President and National Radio Blues broadcaster Terry Iredale of Mildura recalls twice re-forming the organisation.
“This new bid to get the Club back on its wheels is the fourth rescue package,” he said.
The first gathering of Musician Club members was a jam at the Mildura Gun Club at Olympic Park soon after formation.
The Club met regularly at the Mildura Settlers Club for many years and then spent a decade at the Mildura Workingman’s Club where it even had its own equipment storage area.
It then went back to the Mildura Setts in 2008 before going into recess.
Former members, musicians and any adult with an interest in music is invited to attend the meeting at the front bar area of the Mildura Setts on Wednesday March 10 at 7.30pm.
