Dear Sir, The decision by the planning panel is quite interesting and Council should question if it is the correct one for the future of retail development in Mildura.
1. It adds to the already impressive list of assets owned by Westfarmers in Mildura. They will have two Coles Supermarkets, K Mart, Office Works, Target and Bunnings. Not sure whether having most of our eggs in the one basket is a good idea.
2. The decision that Irymple does not warrant two supermarkets, in my mind, rules out such a development for at least twenty years. You cannot say ‘no’ today and change your mind tomorrow.
3. I understand Woolworths had plans to extend their store in Langtree Avenue (utilising an ‘eyesore’) and the development of a hardware store in 15th St. I wonder whether they may now reconsider their position.
4. As for the site chosen, 15th and San Mateo Avenue. Probably the busiest intersection in Mildura is about to get busier. I look forward to seeing the access/egress arrangements
