Eventual winner Dunaden and Americain were the favorite combination at local Calcutta’s leading up to the 2011 Melbourne Cup on Tuesday.
The phantom call at the Coomealla Club had Dunaden the winner in a photo but at the Gol Gol Football Club Calcutta at the Gol Gol Hotel on the Monday night just being defeated in a photo finish.
Americain was “purchased” in the Coomealla Club Calcutta for $2200 while it went for $1700 at Gol Gol.
Dunaden went for $1250 at Gol Gol but the winning bid was $1800 at Coomealla Club’s Calcutta night.
The Coomealla Club pool ended up at $11,830 which was down around $2000 on 2010 but expected because of the economic climate.
First prize at Coomealla is $7098, second $2957.50, third $1183 and $591.60 for last home.
Second place getter Red Cadeaux sold for $260, Lucas Cranach made $620 and last place getter Modun went for $440.
The Gol Gol Hotel Calcutta ended up with a pool of $9060 with first prize at $4830, second $2435, third prize $966 and last $483.
At Gol Gol the winning bid for Red Cadeaux was $400, Lucas Cranach $1000 and Modun $450.
