The Wentworth Rural Women’s committee has been advised by the The Hon Jenny Macklin MP Minister for Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs and Senator the Hon Ursula Stephens Parliamentary Secretary for Social Inclusion and the Voluntary Sector that funding of $4,900 has been approved for the organization.
This has led the small group to undertake an Activity under the Volunteer Grants 2009 initiative – Community Investment Program.
The Wentworth Rural Women’s committee is eligible to purchase small equipment items such as a lap-top computer, printer, software, kitchen utensils/equipment and fuel or items from the extended list.
The lap-top computer & printer combination is an essential tool for minutes of meetings, collection of all files, emails and all correspondence.
The committee has been meeting on a regular basis since July 2008, a total of approximately 16 meetings to date.
Meetings will become more often getting closer to the week-end of events on October 29-31, 2010.
Travelling to meetings is a cost that can easily be overlooked and taken for granted.
The Wentworth Rural Women’s committee is a group of 15 committee members mostly rural women from all diversities of primary production.
It is estimated that a one way trip to Wentworth by all core committee members for a meeting is 462kms.
This is a total of 924kms to drive home again.
