Australian Superbike Championship winner Josh Waters of Mildura has been named the Sports Star of the Year winner for the second year in a row.
Former Olympic swimmer Nicole Livingstone presented Josh Waters with his second Peter Manolas trophy at the sports night held at the Club Da Vinci and attended by around 450 people.
The event had been transferred from the Mildura Setts, which proved an unsatisfactory venue in 2009.
The Robinvale Football and Netball Club which has been rightly arguing for re-instatement of its indigenous round of football, was named a major winner on the night.
The Club of the Year award was made to it, while senior coach Troy Moncur won the coach of the year trophy and the indigenous sportsman of the year went to one of its teenage players Isiaiah Johnson.
The sports volunteer of the year award was made to Mildura West Cricket Club President Bill Sauer, who is one of the district’s most acclaimed public broadcaster and a community compere who, on most weekends, is engaged hosting a charity function of some kind.
The Volunteer of the Year award was sponsored by the Mildura Rural City Council and presented to him by the Mildura Mayor Cr Glenn Milne.
Mr Sauer was also a joint compere of the awards on Saturday night.
