Mildura entertainer Geoff Evans is recovering and says he will be fit to play at the Wentworth Services Club three day weekend of dance to be held from February 12-14.
His return to the stage will be just one month after undergoing a seven hour operation on January 12 at Adelaide’s Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
Originally a keyhole operation was scheduled to remove a tumour from below his kidney, but during the course of it other complications arose and surgery was extended to include the removal of a kidney.
“I spent eight days in intensive car and a couple of days in the general ward before being allowed home to rest,” Evans said.
“I’ve had a good rest for a while and I hope to get around a bit over the next few days.”
“I’ve got some friends who are going to help me move my keyboard and equipment around because I can’t do lifting at this stage.”
“But I am feeling a lot better.”
Evans said that in March he would be doing a few local jobs and then head north to spend another winter working at the big Katherine Caravan and Camping complex where he entertains nightly.
“It’s a great spot for me because each night there is up to 400 people in the park and its virtually a different audience on a day to day basis.
Evans admits there was some confusion last month when another guy named Geoff Evans died up at Echuca.
“My wife Joy started getting all these calls from people who had heard Geoff Evans had passed away.”
“But it was not me – I’m on the improving list and looking forward to getting behind the microphone again this Friday night.”
Geoff Evans is Mildura’s most successful recording artist having been a one time member of the Go Records signed group The Rhythm Rockets and as a solo artist the total sales of his product recently topped the 250,000 mark.
Four songs recorded on the Go Label are still heard every few weeks on Mildura’s oldies station 1611AM Old Gold.
