The defending Champions Workers have opened their 2010 Superbowls Series with a resounding win over Merbein in a replay of the 2009 Series.
The Workers team completed a clean sweep 6 – 0 and +24 shots over Merbein
Tournament Director Mark Eckel said Workers Andrew “Ace” Taylor is an opponent to be respected with outstanding results as an undefeated Division One Pennant Skip. Taylor’s round one result accounting for Eric Watson 20 to 9 sends the signal out that he means business in the Superbowls Series too.
However Taylor didn’t do it on his own, Fred Bacon is one of Sunraysia’s most consistent bowlers this year with Don Baird and Michael Kroek giving him great support.
Workers Triples skipped by Peter Mitchell, Gary Wescombe and Arthur Brown won a competitive game against Graeme Newey 19 – 14.
Workers young gun Michael Legin skip and Arthur Hunter defeated recently crowned Champion of Champions Singles title holder David Gray 17 -9 in the Pairs.
Mildura only dropped the one discipline in their win over Tigers 4 to 2 and +12 shots.
Mildura’s Mark Eckel (s) Marty Connors were too good for Norm Latta winning 22 to 4.
The Fours were won by Mildura’s Nev Hodgetts 24 to 7 over Maurie Press.
Tigers scored a big win in the Triples with Owen Giddings proving too strong for Chris Mitchell 29 to 6.
The interstate local derby went to Wentworth over Coomealla 4 to 2 and +6 shots. Wentworth’s Mister reliable Rod Taylor skipped the Triples with Phil Newton and Ken King accounting for Brandon Tyers 19 to 8.
Wentworth’s Trevor page accounted for Rick Price 13 to 7. Coomealla salvaged 2 points with Michael lodge in a welcomed return to good form 20 to 9 over Ivan Behsmann.
Euston has brought in the big guns to strengthen their chances in the Series however the Swallows answered the challenge with a 3 all draw with Euston finishing + 10 shots.
Euston’s Sandy Tarrant skipped what appears on paper as the strongest Triple combination in the competition with champion Buster Quinlan and Shane Allan showing a clean pair of heels in accounting for Trevor Flack 23 to 11.
Irymple Gary Holmes defeated Lindsay Lynch 12 to 10. Euston’s big import for the competition Wayne Gardner scored a 15 all draw with the competitive Col Sherriff.
Respective Tournament Directors Mark Ecke and Ron Boyd have decided to name the Wednesday night competition the Euston Superleague hosted by the Mildura Workingmans Club.
The revised rules of qualification for the Superleague Series is that bowlers competing will need to have not played more than four games in current Division One pennant season.
All SDLBA (Ladies) are eligible. Division One lady bowlers are eligible for the SuperBowls Series as well as the Superleague Series.
