Mildura’s first overhead walkway was fixed into position on Saturday linking the MADEC Wesley Centre administration complex with its new Community College under construction in Madden Avenue.
The three metres wide walkway will provide all weather access between the MADEC sites for staff and some employment clients and College students.

MADEC chairman Bill Nicol said that the walkway was 4.5 metres above the laneway, which is transport regulated height.
“It has a set of windows facing 10th street and we will probably have some client and staff computers on the walkway with a unique atmosphere.”
Mr Nicol said that the walkway had been constructed on site at ground level and was then lifted into place by a crane on Saturday morning.
“It took 15 to 20 minutes to lift and put into place, suspended across the laneway.”
The pedestrian overpass is part of the $3 million Community College project, half of which has been met from Federal Government’s Building Revolution funding.
Mr Nicol believes that the new Community College will see its first students attending courses by the end of September.
“Building works will probably be completed within a couple of weeks.”
He said that off street car parking for 38 vehicles will be provided on site which meets the Council requirements for an educational facility.
Most of the MADEC Board members and a number of staff turned up Saturday morning to watch the overhead walkway fitted into position.
