A Mildura music historian has been called upon to supply a track from his private collection for a new CD compilation soon to be released on Sony.
Major CD collectors in the world were called upon to locate a copy of the 1971 track “Falling” by the Group Autumn when the recorded masters of the song could not be located.
The search was instigated from London, England, where Richard Spears, the engineer and producer of the compilation is based.
Sony had a master of the single version which was released on a 45 rpm but could not locate the master of the stereo version, which was released on Album, also in 1971.
Mr Spears then received a couple of copies of the stereo version, one of which was supplied by Mildura music historian Glenn Dean.
He located in his collection an original Autumn Album and using advanced digital computer reproduction equipment made up a new file of the song which was sent to England.
Mr Spears said the version supplied from Mildura was the best he had received and has used it on the soon to be released two CD set of “Australian Pop of the Seventies – Bopping The Blues” Volume Three.
While an Aztec re-release of the original album is planned for CD issue soon, Mr Spears selected the sound byte from Mildura as being the best available for the third volume of the Australian series of 70’s music.
Mr Dean provides a music consultancy service for Mildura’s Oldies Radio Station 1611AM and also provides music for specialist music programs on the local Community Station HOT FM, of which he is a life member.
