For almost 40 years John Burfitt has been fundraising to help those in need in Sunraysia and from one man’s desire to make a difference a charity to support local Sunraysia families was born.  In early 2015 C.H.A.I.L.I.S (Children Having An Illness Living In Sunraysia) was formed to support families with a child with a life limiting illness.

Sunraysia families often need to travel vast distances to access medical care with families incurring significant costs for travel and accommodation whilst their child undergoes treatment and often a parent will need to give up their employment during the time of their child’s illness.  C.H.A.I.L.I.S. supports the families as they undergo treatment with 100% of funds donated given to the families.

The Annual Report presented at the AGM this week detailed the work of the organisation in the past year.  Over $55,500 in donations and fundraising was distributed to support local families with a child with medical needs with funds raised through collecting, fundraisers and donation tins throughout the region.

President of C.H.A.I.L.I.S, John Burfitt thanked the Sunraysia community for their generosity and said "as we go forward I pray that we can continue to make a difference in the lives of our families."

"This has been a big year for us with almost $49,000 being raised and $55,594.00 donated to our C.H.A.I.L.I.S families," Mr Burfitt said.

The organisations next fundraiser is a three hour dinner and trivia cruise on the paddle steamer, the Mundoo, on October 27th.  "The night will be fun and help those doing it tough" John said.
